Beyond the FIFA World Cup: KCG Tech Brings School Football into the Spotlight with Landmark Championship

Chennai, Aug4: The Department of Physical Education at KCG College of Technology, Chennai, successfully concluded the KCG FIFA League 2026 – Inter-School Football Championship, a five-day tournament held from 27th to 31st July 2026 to foster grassroots sports culture. Structured around a FIFA World Cup-inspired league-cum-knockout format, the championship brought together 48 school teams competing across two age categories: Boys Under-18 and Boys Under-16. Alongside the main matches, the campus was energized by FIFA World Cup-themed competitions, including a quiz, poster making, and a penalty shootout tournament.

Highlighting the event's significance, Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chairman, Hindustan Group of Institutions, remarked that while international tournaments end, the passion for football endures among youth, and events like this ensure young athletes have world-class avenues to pursue their dreams. Dr. Annie Jacob, Director, KCG Tech, emphasized the necessity of sports for well-rounded youth development, stating that cultivating resilience and teamwork outside the classroom builds character that standard textbooks cannot teach. Principal-in-Charge Dr. G. Prabhakaran expressed his thrill over the massive turnout, noting that it reflects how deeply rooted football culture has become across India.
